Lindsay's father arrives in Tokyo

Lindsay's father arrives in Tokyo

The father of the young woman found dead in a bathtub full of sand on a Tokyo balcony has arrived in Japan.

Heartbroken William Hawker arrived with his daughter Lindsay’s boyfriend, Ryan Garside, to identify her body which was found on Monday afternoon on the balcony of a flat where her killer had dragged the bath.

It was covered in sand with just one hand visible. Police are hunting Tatsuya Ichihashi, 28, who fled the apartment as they questioned neighbours.

Police have issed a warrant for the arrest of the Japanese man who lived alone in the apartment where her naked body was found.

"We are investigating the cause of her death," a local police spokesman said. "It is unclear at the moment."

Neighbours heard banging

Ichihashi, 28, fled when police arrived to question him, losing his shoes and a rucksack he was carrying in a chase, a police spokesman said.

His neighbours told Japanese television they had heard banging noises coming from his apartment at night.

Hawker, was to speak to reporters at a hotel in nearby Chiba later on Wednesday, a British embassy spokesman said.

Today it emerged that Lindsay had already decided to leave Japan because she found the men “creepy”.

Lindsay had posted a message on the Facebook website on March 20  mentioning that a man had followed her home.

In one posting to Ryan, she wrote: "Love u lots dont worry abt the gut (guy) who chased me home, its jus crazy Japan. miss u xxx."

And a friend told The Sun today:' She found Japanese men weird. Some made inappropriate gestures and sexual remarks."

Her parents and friends first became concerned for her at the weekend when she didn’t return calls or emails.

Boyfriend, TV researcher Ryan, had emailed: “Get in touch you fool! Why do you never email.”

Mum feared she had been injured in earthquake

And her sister emailed to say her mum feared she had been hurt in Monday’s earthquake.

She wrote: “Mum is v v worried…can you call.”

Her family are “extremely distressed” and in a short statement said the suspect was not known to Lindsay.

Chief Inspector Dale Pritchard, of Warwickshire Police, said: "They [the family] are in a terrible position, one in which no-one would ever want to be.

"They just want to be left alone to manage their grief in private."
