God, no! How can he cure infertility?

An unemployed Londoner has finally found work – as an Indian goddess hailed for curing the infertility of thousands of Hindus.

Steve Cooper, 32, has swapped his tiny flat in Tooting, south London, for a secluded jungle temple where he is visited by scores of pilgrims every day. He travelled to India to start a new life after being told by Indian friends in the capital he looked like the ancient deity Bahucharaji Mata, patron of Indian eunuchs.

The unlikely saviour is greeted in his village in the northern state of Gujarat by people saying: “Jay Bahuchar Ma” (the goddess is here).

Cooper said: “I love being here. I don’t miss anything about Tooting. I plan to stay.

“They revere me and believe I am a goddess.” Cooper, who calls himself Pamela and grew up with his brother Justin in Leicestershire, gets up at dawn and dresses in a holy saffron robe before starting his daily ritual of blessings.

It is understood he has not undergone sex change surgery and said: “I am both male and female.”

One woman, Rekha, told thelondonpaper’s sister title The Sun: “My sister-in-law came here and she got pregnant. I hope the same will happen to me after being blessed.”
