Tailored suits are the hottest look for modern men

Classically styled suits are the fashion buy of the season for gents this season, from the three-piece to the classic double-breasted jacket

AFTER season upon season of ­gimmicky menswear – ­seventies, super-skinny, some other trends beginning with “s” – fashion has ­reverted to its roots and is celebrating the suit.

The masters of the catwalk have acknowledged the slick smartness that only a sharp three-piece suit bestows. Sometimes the simplest style statements are the most ­subversive.

Autumn’s trend for ­traditional tailoring ushers in a new mode of masculinity where style has substance and real men rule. Fey boys in bands have been ­replaced with Don Draper and Gerard Butler as pin-ups. Guys can breathe a sigh of relief as spray-on Dior Homme-esque suits are ­relegated and hairy ankles no longer spurt from shrunken Thom Browne-style cropped trousers.

Old-school suits languishing in your wardrobe can be co-opted into regular service again, too. Just update the old-timer by adding a natty handkerchief, retiring your digital timepiece and keeping your shoes mirror-shined at all times. Simple.
