Jane Rafter's 'Slinks' appear on Dragons' Den - we love them!
Most entrants on Dragons’ Den leave us cold, but Francesca Hornak is rooting for designer Jane Rafter
12 August 2009
WE'VE had a few ideas for Dragons’ Den ourselves, since you ask. A pre-holiday sunscreen jab. A bed that exercises you while you sleep. Magnetic coat hangers that pull clothes off the floor and hang them up… too bad our business acumen is lacking the science to support it.
But when inspiration struck designer Jane Rafter, 35, she applied for a patent and went to the Dragons with her idea: sandals with detachable uppers. Each pair of Slinks comes with three beaded tops, which can be quickly swapped for different looks. You can buy additional uppers from £15, with six designs in each colour.
We’re not normally crazy about gimmick fashion (remember those dumb retractable heels?), but these took our fancy. Partly for obvious space-saving and economic benefits. But also because they’re actually nice shoes.
The soles are handmade from Spanish leather, and each pair comes in a neat-freak bag to keep the kit in.
But will the Dragons go for it? Watch Rafter present her idea tonight.
Slinks are available at janerafter.com, £120 per set.
