Anyone who thought women were the fairer sex has perhaps never asked them about their fantasies.

Now author Mitzi Szereto has done exactly that. She has spent a year investigating what 3,000 women want in the bedroom for a no-holds barred book, The New Black Lace Book of Women’s Sexual Fantasies.

What was the strangest fantasy you were sent?

We had some involving the paranormal. One woman said she wanted to change her gender to become a young prince and visit another planet. The woman was also some kind of space warrior and her tale features in the “unearthly pleasures” section. Gender changing is quite a recurrent theme.

Did you not suffer sex overkill?

Put it this way, I wasn’t reading them in a corset with a dozen men waiting on me. It’s quite a responsibility – I didn’t want to misrepresent the female race. Well over 3,000 ordinary women responded to the questionnaires, divulging what turned them on.

How do women’s fantasies differ from men’s?

Men are pretty limited in their fantasies. They seem to go for the same old trusted male sex cliches of one man with two women. Women are much more out there and really push their limits.

How varied were the respondents?

I had responses from women aged 17 to 86 – some heavily sexed and others still virgins. The book isn’t just smutty sex stories, we have some very sweet tales in there. Some women just wanted to make love on a grassy hilltop with rain falling. Others disclosed some very personal things like how being abused has affected their sexuality. There is no such thing as normal here.

Is this a book that men should read?

Yes, they might learn something. Any guy who has fantasies about sleeping with two women at once should read this. They would never be able to handle two women from here.

How did you start the book?

A guy I knew was writing sci-fi erotica and he asked me to read some of them out. They were pretty graphic, but I was able to read them out without embarrassment, and so he gave me a shove into it. I used to read romance novels hidden inside a copy of Abraham Lincoln’s autobiography when I was little.
