London designer Matthew Williamson's show was hijacked today by Prince. He stunned fashion writers and buyers who had gathered to see the latest collection of one of the hottest designers in town by playing a surprise gig.

"There was this mad scramble to get in and then all of a sudden we realised what was happening. Prince was inside," said one eager Williamson fan.

"He sat on the front row and when the beat kicked in he leapt on stage to sing just one gig and played a song about Chelsea girls," said Carrie Gorman, thelondonpaper's fashion editor.

His backing singers, The Twinz, appeared on stage with him in Matthew Williamson. When the song ended, he and the Twinz, took their seats in the front row and celebrities that attended included Trudi Styler, Erin O'connor, Vogue editor Anna Wintour, and Donna Air.

"The hard-nosed fashion crowd even cracked a smile, danced and surged forward as he played," said Gorman.

His surprise appearance delayed the start of Williamson's show.

Prince has been in London for the last two months, playing a record 21-gig tour at the O2 Arena.

The reclusive star has been a regular fixture on the London night scene, regularly stopping by nightbclubs such as Chinawhite and Mo*vida and hitting The Bourne Ultimatum after-show party at Shoreditch House with , The Twinz.

He has rarely played however - he has more often been lurking in a corner taking in his surroundings.
