This week's new releases:
Big River Man - 5/5: - This extraordinary doc, about a heavy-drinking, fat 53-year-old who swims rivers, is so bizarre it feels like a mockumentary. District 9 - 4/5: Aliens are go! The Dark Continent just got a little darker, with Neill Blomkamp’s excellent sci-fi fable that holds up a mirror to South Africa’s social divisions - read the review
(500) Days of Summer - 4/5: Boy meets girl. Boy falls in love. Girl doesn’t. That twist to the indie rom-com formula is what gives this move such a surprising emotional kick. With Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel - read the review
Bustin' Down The Door - 3/5: Paddling back to the mid- 70s, director Jeremy Gosch’s surfing doc explores how a group of cocky Australians and South Africans hijacked aloha culture, and how the natives fought pack - read the review
Greek Pete - 3/5: Fancy some how’s your father? For the £8.50 cost of a cinema ticket you can become the client of “award-winning” rent boy Greek Pete - read the review
