Starring: Billy Paul, Blanche Williams

IF you know soul singer Billy Paul at all, it’s probably for his 1972 hit Me and Mrs Jones. But as Goran Hugo Olsson’s documentary shows, there’s a lot more to him than that. The 74-year-old has come through cocaine addiction, racial discrimination and record company misdeeds to emerge a feisty soul survivor with many stories to tell. Olson’s contention is that the song that gives his film its title stopped Paul’s career in its tracks with its radical sentiments. Billy takes a more stoical view, letting wife Blanche do much of the talking.
