Catwalk Confidential

Ah, the trials and tribulations of being a 70s catwalk star. This one-woman show penned by and starring ex-supermodel Robyn Peterson is a juicy yarn of drugs and eating disorders.

Arts Theatre, WC2, from 4 Sept, 0845 017 5584

Orphans

Dennis Kelly’s bleak and tense thriller has been lavished with praise by critics in Edinburgh. “Darkly comic and deeply unsettling”, according to the Guardian.

Midsummer

Comic and romantic “play with songs” about the tussle between a divorce lawyer and a petty criminal. “A romantic comedy that has a good head on its shoulders as well as a huge heart at its centre,” says one critic. No firm plans yet, though.

Morecambe

This play about the life of legendary entertainer Eric Morecambe got five-star reviews and definitely has the broad appeal to make it in the capital.

Internal

The hot ticket of this year’s festival is a mix between a confession and a speed date. You are the only audience member as you reveal your innermost secrets to a complete stranger. Plans are in the offing for a London version in 2010.

Blondes

Denise van Outen’s homage to blonde bombshells – including Dolly Parton and Madonna – looked like a shoo-in for a transfer pre-festival. But the reviews have not been kind (“entertainment’s equivalent of a bad hair day”), making the journey south touch and go.

Faust

One of the big openings at this year’s Edinburgh is a Romanian take on Faust – and big is the word, with its 100 performers. Five-star reviews (“stupendous”) might point to a future life, but moving it would be pricey.
