Two new hard-hitting plays confront the killing of Jean Charles de Menezes and the terror attacks of 7/7.

First up is Stockwell: the Inquest into the Death of Jean Charles de Menezes, which opened last night at Clapham’s Landor Theatre, just a few hundred yards from where the young Brazilian was shot by police, and all based on actual inquest transcripts.

Over in Kilburn, The Tricycle Theatre hosts the London premiere of Simon Stephen’s much-heralded Pornography. The play was a massive hit in Edinburgh last year and is set in the three days leading up to the 7/7 bombings.

If you’ve got the stomach for it, they could be two of the most important stage events of the summer.

Stockwell: The Inquest, Landor Theatre, to 8 Aug, SW9, 020 7737 7276; Pornography, The Tricycle Theatre, 4-29 Aug, NW6,
