Eastern Electrics Bank Holiday Weekender puts superclubs to shame
BLOC, Dublime and Man Make Music have a memorable night in Southwark, with Monolake, Appleblim, Congo Natty, Another Amit and Sketchy
7 May 2009
EASTERN ELECTRICS stormed the bank holiday weekend, with the boys from BLOC, Dublime and Man Make Music running the first of a two-day mini festival at a secret location - a Southwark car park.
Monolake headed up the BLOC stage, with an impressive set from Appleblim earlier in the night, but although the stage was popular, the room lacked some of the punchy atmosphere which characterised the other stages.
On the Dublime stage, Congo Natty in particular excelled with an energetic set that got the crowd bouncing up and down, even though the MCs awkward sing-a-long moments overpowered the sounds at times.
Pick of the night was the Man Make Music stage, with twisted bass beats and unexpected drops from Another Amit and Sketchy.
The basic venue gave the genuine feel of an early warehouse rave: the deep vaulted arches housing the three main rooms and bare, crumbling concrete for a dance floor all added to the feeling that everyone in the room was there for one thing only – the music.
Eastern Electrics has managed to pull off an amazing feat with its run of events – it has brought a distinct feel of the underground back to the scene along with great artists, developing an impressive following that can only go from strength to strength.
