Six great London canalside pubs

Water way to sink a pint! Make the most of London's final burst of summer weather and head to a pub by a canal to soak up sunshine by the water

5 August 2009

1 The Grand Union

Named after the canal it overlooks, this attractive pub sits on a bridge in Westbourne Park. Grab a seat by the giant windows to enjoy a stunning watery vista.

The Grand Union, 45 Woodfield Rd, W9, 020 7286 1886

2 The Palm Tree

This old-fashioned East End pub is famed for its “battlecruiser” vibe and singalongs round the piano, but also has an extensive grassy area next to Regent’s Canal.

3 The Bridge House

Best known for the Canal Café Theatre upstairs, this picturesque pub is worth a visit for its waterside location in canal-ridden Maida Vale.

4 The Waterway

This bar and restaurant (which boasts nine beers on draft) has a spacious decked area at the front, overlooking the “waterways” of Little Venice.

The Waterway, 54 Formosa St, W9, 020 7266 3557

5 The Constitution

This modern-traditional pub has an excellent location on a bridge between Camden and King’s Cross. Grab a bench by Regent’s Canal in the homely, plant-filled beer garden.

The Constitution, 42 St Pancras Way, NW1, 020 7387 4805

6 Rotunda

Kings Place, the office space and concert venue in King’s Cross which opened in 2008, boasts this swanky canalside bar. There’s plenty of outdoor seating, too. You get to the bar through the building’s main entrance in York Way.
